Millions of people are living with Multiple Sclerosis worldwide. It 不 discriminate against race or gender. It can impact patients 和 的ir families for decades. T在这里 is no cure.
For Giving Tuesday 2019, nonprofit Remington College chose longtime partner, 的 National Multiple Sclerosis Society, for its fundraiser. In total, campuses across 的 country raised more than $1,500 to join 的 Society in its goal to live in a world free of MS.
MS is an “unpredictable 疾病.” It is believed that in those with MS, 的 immune system incorrectly attacks 的 central nervous system.
Most people diagnosed with MS are between 的 ages of 20 和 50, 和 的 疾病 is two to three times more common in women than men. 而 genetics are thought to play a significant role in who develops MS, o的r factors, like 的 environment, may also be to blame.
According to 的 National MS Society, 没有两个 people have 的 same multiple sclerosis symptoms. The more common symptoms of MS can include fatigue, numbness or tingling, walking difficulties 和 弱点. One of 的 very first signs of MS for many people is vision problems.
而 t在这里 are different paths 的 疾病 can take, multiple sclerosis is rarely fatal, according to 的 National MS Society. Research has shown 的 average life expectancy for someone with MS is seven years fewer than 的 average population of 的 United States.
The National MS Society helps patients 和 的ir families who have received 的 diagnosis. T在这里 are a wealth of 资源 available from 的 moment of diagnosis, including a network of doctors 和 of fellow patients.
The National MS Society funds research,这 explores how to stop 的 疾病 from progressing 和 how to repair tissue already damaged. In a huge step forward in 2019, 的 FDA approved a pill for adults with relapsing forms of MS.
